Biermann's Grand Slam Pushes 7 Up to 5-0
Normally high school players have growing pains, especially against legends like Johnny Arnold of the Brookfield Blue Sox, but Zach Biermann has been on a mission to prove he isn't no ordinary high school player. Biermann continued swinging a hot bat on Sunday, as West Bend defeated Brookfield 13-5. Biermann's grand slam in the 6th inning blew a game open that had many of the signs of a classic Johnny Arnold pitched game. Arnold held the 7 Up bats in check for the first 3 innings. It was in the 4th when 7 Up's bats came to life. Sam Matthies led the inning off with a triple, Billy Bynum followed with a double, and Adam Rohlinger hit another double a few batters later and West Bend was up 3-1. Biermann's grand slam in the 5th gave 7 Up 7-1 lead. 7 Up scored 5 in 6th to put the game out of reach thanks to 6 of the first 7 batters reaching in the inning. Taylor Koth won his second game of the season on the mound, and Matt Parrent pitched 3 solid innings in relief.
